Cardigans - LifeIn the mid 1990's, the Cardigans enjoyed instant success with their frothy pop creation, Lovefool. That song helped boost sales of their album First Band on the Moon, but that album failed to provide another hit single. Since then, the Cardigans have released a few albums, but nothing has ever brought them the same level of success they received from that one song. For most people, The Cardigans have unfortunately been relegated to the category of "one-hit wonder." But it was before the success of Lovefool that the Cardigans released Life, a perfect blend of kitschy melodies and retro hooks - not to mention the breathy vocals of lead singer Nina Pearsson. The Cardigans employed a variety of instruments and sounds to create candy-like pop songs that often provide many layers of depth beneath their sweet surface. The album starts of with Carnival, a song that is determined to make you smile with its cheery melody and hand claps. Pearsson growls through the lines and makes you beg for more. The album goes on to deliver delicious pop confections like Rise & Shine and Sick & Tired, as well as dreamy tunes such as Celia Inside and Gordon's Gardenparty. Even a cover of Black Sabbath's Sabbath Bloody Sabbath sounds pretty enough to make you smile. Whether you accept the album as tongue-in-cheek or you revel in the pure pop sensation, Life is certainly worth living for. Listen and Buy at Amazon.com
