Michael Kaeshammer - No Strings AttachedMichael Kaeshammer is such a natural pianist, he makes even the most intricate rhythms sounds as easy to play as Chopsticks. His finger glide across the keyboard with such flair that you just have to admire his craftmanship. No Strings Attached is a collection of boogie woogie and blues that will have you smiling and tapping your feet. One of the most impressive tracks on the album is Kaeshammer's arrangement of Scott Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag. He plays around with piano rolls and complex syncopation to create a startling rendition of this ragtime classic. While most of the album is instrumental, Kaeshammer welcomes guests Eddie Bo and Big Joe Duskin for a couple of blues numbers that never stray from the true spirit of the genre. Kaeshammer even lends his own voice to the rollicking track On a Saturday Night. His slightly raspy voice perfectly accentuates the music, not only making the song a pleasure to listen to but also making you wonder if there's anything he can't do. Kaeshammer has won several awards in his homeland of Canada, but he has yet to duplicate that success here in the U.S. No String Attached is a great album, and one that you may find yourself listening to over and over.
