Poe - HauntedWith her first album, Hello, Poe gained recognition for such in-your-face tracks as Trigger Happy Jack and Angry Johnny. But it's her second album, Haunted, that takes her terrific trip-hop songs and transcends them to a personal, intimate level. The result is an album that is both eerie and exciting. Haunted was inspired by recordings and documents of Poe's late father, document filmmaker Ted Danielewski. Poe uses her father's voice, low growls, slamming doors, and spine-tingling phone messages to create a truly haunting atmosphere that surrounds a strong collection of songs. And throughout the album, Poe ably shifts her voice to match the many moods. She delivers a perfectly angry growl on songs like Haunted and Control, and then takes a heartbreaking turn in the flamenco-flavored Spanish Doll. The album closes with a conversation between father and daughter that puts a strong, poignant end to an immensely satisfying experience. To enhance the experience, you can also check out the book House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski - Poe's brother. The book was written with the same inspiration, and the book and the album complement each other with overlying themes and ideas. Listen to and buy this album at Amazon.com
