Victor Wooten - A Show of Hands

Victor Wooten has been amazing audiences for years with his mind-blowing bass playing as a member of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. A Show of Hands is Victor's first solo album, and it consists entirely of (as Victor puts in the title of one track) "Me & My Bass Guitar."

That's right - an entire album filled with music on the bass guitar. You might wonder how one goes about creating an album playing an instrument normally used to provide rhythmic support for a band. But once you hear Victor's impressive two-handed technique and multi-layered sounds, you begin to understand.

Wooten mixes acoustic and electric bass to create an album filled with funky rhythms and melodies. He deftly uses overtones to create his rendition of Stevie Wonder's Overjoyed. And he shows off his jaw-dropping technical skills on Classical Thump and the amazing title track.

While I would certainly recommend checking out any album by the chameleon-like Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, I suggest checking out A Show of Hands to see how incredibly musical the bass guitar can be in the right hands.
