By Chris Cosci "Welcome back to our live coverage of Blizzard 2003. For those of you just joining us, we have cancelled our normal programming this morning to bring you full coverage of this hard-hitting news event." "In case you haven't had a chance to look outside yet today, it's snowing - and it's snowing hard. It's been snowing all morning and it doesn't look like it will be letting up any time soon. Let's turn to our meteorologist, Troy Thunder, to get another look at the forecast. Troy..." "Thanks, Jim. Looking at the radar photos from our AccuStorm 12000, we can see a large pattern of snow covering most of New England. This means we're looking at a lot of snow falling over the next few hours. This will continue until these clouds move East over the Atlantic Ocean. Until then, you can expect the snow to keep falling and accumulate up to one or even two feet. Back to you, Jim." "Thanks, Troy. So the snow continues to fall and officials urge everyone to just stay in their homes. If you don't have to go out, then stay indoors. Inside, you can keep warm and prevent exposure to the dangerous elements outdoors. Now let's turn to our field reporter, Katie, who's outside with some more information on this story." "Thanks, Jim. Well, as you can see behind me, it's still snowing. There's snow on the ground, snow on the roofs, snow on the trees. It's everywhere. If you can see my legs, the snow is already up to my knees. This is a lot of snow and it doesn't look like it's going to be stopping any time soon." "Thanks, Katie. Once again, for those of you joining us, you are watching live coverage of Blizzard 2003. Now, for those of you who are unsure what to do in this situation, we have an expert in the studio here to give you some tips. Let's welcome Brian Smith. Thanks for joining us on this cold, snowy morning, Brian." "My pleasure, Jim. Well, it's a cold one out there today, and you really want to try staying inside. I would recommend closing all the windows in your home and turning up the thermostat to a comfortable temperature. Enjoy some warm foods like oatmeal, soup and microwave popcorn. And if you feel cold, it's never a bad idea to cover yourself with an extra blanket." "Thanks, Brian. We go now to city transportation officials, who are holding a press conference. We join them live." "...at this time, we are seeing a lot of snow. Our snow plows are ready, and we do plan on plowing all major roads as soon as possible. There is a lot of snow and it doesn't seem like it will be stopping any time soon. So, we will have to plow some roads multiple times. Until then, we urge people to stay home and try not to drive if you don't have to. Now, do we have any questions? Yes?" "How much snow do you think there will be?" "I really can't say. There's a lot of snow out there, and it hasn't stopped snowing yet. There will be a lot of snow to plow, and we will start plowing soon. Yes?" "How do you plan on plowing these roads?" "Well, we have a lot of snow plows, and soon we will send them out to start plowing the roads. But there is a lot of snow and it will take a long time to get all of the snow plowed..." "You've just been watching a live press conference with city transportation officials. Once again, you are watching live coverage of Blizzard 2003. We've seen a lot of snow so far and it doesn't look like it will be stopping any time soon. We'll continue to keep you covered on this story as events unfold. When we come back from commercials, more extended coverage of Blizzard 2003." |
